Love: Jay-Z and Beyonce by Bryan Phillips
The final installment to my Black History Month series is the power couple, Shawn Carter and Beyonce Knowles. As the two most powerful and influential people in their profession, Jay-Z and Beyonce have made their relationship iconic. Meeting in 2002, while collaborating on the single, “03 Bonnie and Clyde”, the two began a relationship that has remained mostly in secret. They’ve been repeatedly named the richest couple in America with Carter playing the rap mogul and businessman and Knowles playing the strong and charming diva performer. What people can really gather from their relationship isn’t the fame, but their PR. Two celebrities getting married and having a child is career suicide in the entertainment business especially with such high caliber notoriety. Yet, by keeping the details of their relationship away from the paparazzi and journalists, they have gone a decade now, completely unscathed. It’s a true act of professionalism and maturity. It’s an example for the younger generation on how to handle your relationships and your love.
